Sandra CeciariniSandra Ceciarini is the director of the section "Citizenship and International Cooperation" of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in Paris. Encompassing 51 national associations of towns and regions from 37 countries, the CEMR is Europe’s biggest organisation of municipal and regional political subdivisions. The objective of its work is the advancement of a united Europe that is based on municipal and regional autonomy and democracy. Sandra Ceciarini studied political science at Sciences Po in Paris and has been working for the CEMR since 1992, where she has especially advocated the recognition of the role of area municipalities with respect to development cooperation. As part of this commitment, she led the process of structuring the first "European platform of local and regional des authorities for development". Sandra Ceciarini currently acts as the manager of the CEMR's citizenship and international cooperation section, where she is also engaged in the divisions of town twinning and equality of opportunity. In this capacity, she was involved in the development of the European Charter for equality of women and men at local level.
