Mariama AwumbilaMariama Awumbila is the Head of the Centre for Migration Studies at the University of Ghana as well as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Resource Development at the same university. She holds a Bachelor's degree (geography with sociology), a Master's degree  in Population Studies from the University of Ghana and a PhD in geography from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Mariama Awumbila's research interests include the fields of migration, development, gender, resource management and poverty reduction strategies. In addition to her teaching and research work she is a member of the Union of African Population Scientists, the Ghana Geographical Association and the committee on Gender and Geography Commission of the International Geographical Union (IGU) Commission.
