Minister Jabulani MahlanguJabulani (Jabu) Lukas Mahlangu is Minister for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism as well as Deputy Head of Elections of the South African Province Mpumalanga. Prior to that he was Member of the Mpumalanga Executive Council for Finance, for Culture, Sport and Recreation as well as for Local Government and Housing. During this whole period he held the office of Leader of Government Business and was a member of the Legislature Service Board. After an imprisonment from 1986 to 1988 as a consequence of political involvement, JL Mahlangu participated in the CODESA negotiations of the early 1990s as member of the African National Congress (ANC), where the abandoment of the apartheid system in South Africa was decided. As Senator for the South African Parliament contributed to the drafting of the 1997 Constitution. JL Mahlangu has represented his country in many missions abroad on Security, Housing, Economic, Local Government and other affairs: In 1995 and 1996 he was the South African representative of the Public Service Commission at the United Nations Headquarter, New York. In addition to his political career JL Mahlangu has held various business directorships between 1979 and 2004.
