George MatovuGeorge W. Matovu is Regional Director of the Harare-based office of Municipal Development Partnership (MDP) for Eastern and Southern Africa, Zimbabwe. MDP is a non-profit regional organization; its mission is to promote decentralized governance and to strengthen the capacity of local governments to effectively deliver services, promote local development and fight poverty. George W. Matovu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in public administration and political science (Makerere University, Uganda), a Master's Degree in development administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in international relations and development (Institute of Social Studies ISS, The Hague, Netherlands), a Master's degree in public administration (MPA) concentrating on public policy analysis and management (New York University, Robert Wagner School of Public Service, USA) and a Certificate in Rural Development and Management (University of Manchester, United Kingdom). Prior to joining the MDP-ESA in 1993, he worked as a civil servant in the Uganda public service for 16 years. Currently George W. Matovu is also the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Netherlands based Resource Center for Urban Agriculture and Food Securities (RUAF) Foundation and the founding chief editor of the Local Governance and Development Journal, published bi-annually by MDP.
