Dr. Emmanuel AkweteyDr. Emmanuel Akwetey is the Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG). He is a political scientist with a Ph.D. (1994) degree from the University of Stockholm, Sweden. His doctoral dissertation dealt with "Trades Unions and Democratisation: A Comparative Study of Ghana and Zambia". Since 1999 Emmanuel Akwetey has worked primarily in the NGO and civil society sectors, dealing with issues of the latter's interface with the state in general and involvement in the public policy dialogue and decision-making progress, in particular. He served as lead consultant to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Liberia on Human Capacity Development Strategy formulation. Emmanuel Akwetey has also directed collaborative research and participated in research institutions such as the Open Society Initiative's African Foundations, the UN Research Institute for Socials Development, the Danish Institute for International Affairs, and Alliance 2015 – coalition of major European Non-Governmental Organizations campaigning for aid effectiveness and the eradication of poverty.
